Anonymity, Free Speech, and the Internet: A Global Perspective

Note: This Colloquium was hosted by the School of Journalism

ABSTRACT:

Publishing anonymously, long recognized as a First Amendment right in the United States, is a widespread practice on the Internet, a global medium. The wide variation in global attitudes toward anonymous speech suggests a need for an international consensus on legal protections for those who choose to participate in public discourse from behind a mask.
